Depth Micrometers

Depth micrometers are used to measure the depth of a recess, hole or slot. Raptor Supplies offers a vast range of depth micrometers from brands like Starrett, Johnson, Westward, Brown & Sharpe and Mitutoyo. Starrett depth micrometers are designed for measuring depths of slots, holes, projections and shoulders. These micrometers are equipped with ring-type knurled lock nuts to ensure quick and safe locking. With a resolution of 0.001 inch, they can sense depths up to 3 inches. Westward depth micrometers (0 to 6 inch range) feature a flat anvil made of hardened steel to ensure flexibility and wear resistance. They come equipped with snap-fit rods for stress-free operation and provide 0.001 inch resolution. These depth micrometers are available in base lengths ranging from 75 mm to 6 inches.

Working Mechanism

  • These depth micrometers consist of a spindle that can be adjusted by rotating a thimble until the rod / beam contacts the bottom of the hole being measured.
  • As the spindle reaches the bottom, a reading can be determined manually with graduations along a vernier scale or is shown on the digital display (in the case of electronic depth micrometers).

Features

Insize Electronic Depth Gauges :

  • These gauges are used to measure the depth of small grooves and holes, as well as the depth of tire thread.
  • They have a maximum measuring range of 0-500 mm (0- 20 inches) and a resolution of 0.01 mm (0.0005 inches).
  • They also have a large LCD screen that is easy to read and can be zeroed at any position.
  • These electronic depth gauges have a hardened stainless steel base and measuring face which ensures durability and accuracy.
  • They feature a thumb roller for accurate positioning, an automatic shut-off feature to conserve battery life and a protective case for storage and transport convenience.

Mitutoyo Digital Depth Micrometer :

  • This precision measuring tool is used for accurately measuring the depth of holes, slots and other recessed profiles.
  • It has a set of 12 interchangeable rods with a lapped measuring surface to make the wide-range measurement.
  • The micrometer also features a ratchet stop for consistent measuring force and an adjustable measuring rod for versatile positioning.
  • It has a hardened steel construction with a measuring range of 0 - 12 inches and a resolution of 0.001 mm.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a spindle?

A spindle is attached to a thimble (the rotating component of the micrometer) and moves towards the anvil to measure the dimension of the part being measured.

Is Mitutoyo depth micrometer corrosion-resistant?

Yes, the micrometre's moving components, that is, the thimble and sleeve have satin chrome finish for excellent strength and corrosion resistance.

How do I maintain my depth micrometer?

  • Keep the micrometer clean and free of dust or debris.
  • Avoid dropping or impacting the tool to prevent damage.
  • Store the tool in a protective case when not in use.
  • Regularly calibrate the tool by a qualified technician for improved accuracy.
