Frequently Asked Questions:
Q. Are safety cans fine for outdoor use?
A. Yes, safety cans are suitable for outdoor use. However, certain precautions must be taken when using these containers outside, such as when temperatures are hot, the vapour pressure can get elevated. Hence, it is important to relieve the pressure in vapour space (while setting the can in a flat position) and not in liquid space (when tilted and dispensing liquid) to avoid sudden bursts or implosion. When the temperature is warm and sudden cooling occurs, a vacuum can be created. Since there is no vacuum relief valve built into a safety can, it can implode suddenly. To prevent this situation, burp the safety cans at the end of the day to relieve pressure. Keeping the cans in shade can also minimise any material loss (i.e prevent liquid vapourisation).
Q. What type of chemicals should be stored in safety cans?
A. OSHA-compliant safety cans are ideal for storing gasoline, kerosene, diesel, propane, isopropyl alcohol and various other oils.
Q. What is the significance of Type 1 can design?
A. Type 1 design allows both pouring and filling from a single opening.
