The rivet nuts can be installed into an array of different materials comprising metal, plastic, fiberglass and carbon fiber. They are used in a broad range of applications in the automotive, heavy truck and manufacturing industries.
Rivet nuts typically have a gripping range of 0.010 to 0.500 inches. However no rivet nut can accommodate the entire range.
There are two types of rivet nuts: one forms a bulge on the back side as a screw is tightened on its threads and the other is drawn into a sleeve to produce the connecting bulge on the back side.
To install rivet nuts without a tool, users require a bolt that has its own nut and can fit into the rivet nut. Users should also have a washer or larger bushing that can fit around the bolt fairly tight.
