Wood screws are suitable for joining wooden surfaces like cabinets, furniture parts, building jigs, clamping forms and mounting hardware & trims in woodworking, maintenance and repair applications. Raptor Supplies offers a wide range of these screws from Duraspin, Fabory, Fast Cap, Grainger & Super-Strut. These self-tapping screws require a pre-punched or drilled hole (depending on the hardness of the material) for installation / operation. These wood screws have steel, stainless steel, carbon steel or brass construction for retaining their shape and offering high abrasion resistance, even after hammering.

Features

  • Wood screws tightly press their threads into the material for a vibration-resistant assembly.
  • They are divided primarily into 3 parts: the head, the threaded portion and the tip point.
  • The head is available in multiple styles & drives for driving the screw into / out out of the material.
  • The threaded section below the head catches the material & prevents the screws from coming out of the workpiece.
  • The tip section below the threading is available in numerous screw end designs for penetrating the material and improving product performance.
  • Selected screws come with a washer / flanged head to evenly distribute the load and provide a leak-tight seal in outdoor applications.
  • Some screws have oversized heads to deliver high holding power while preventing pull-throughs.
  • Some Grainger wood screws are self-drilling in nature for hard wooden surfaces.
  • Fabory wood screws are available in flat, rounded, raised countersunk & oval head styles, and lengths ranging from 3/8 to 4 inches.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between wood screws and metal screws?

Wood screws are used on wooden surfaces whereas metal screws are used on metal surfaces or sheets. Generally, wood screws have shorter threading with lower pitch (threads per inch) compared to metal screws that have longer threading with higher pitch.

Is a pilot hole required for installing wood screws?

A pilot hole is required when installing these screws on hardwood / laminates / crack-prone wood, where final appearance matters. They can work without a pilot hole when used on softwood or applications where appearance does not matter.

How to install these wood screws?

  • Mark the hole centre where the screw is to be installed with an awl.
  • Drill bore a shaft clearance hole before drilling a pilot hole.
  • When using flathead wood screws, countersink or counterbore the drilled hole.
  • Press a drill tip attached to a driver tightly into the screw head and turn the driver to fit the screw fully into the hole.
