Pin Assortments

Pin assortments are kits containing pins of different types and sizes, used in assemblies to maintain the positions of components. They allow free movement along an axis or provide a permanent / temporary connection. The assortments' catalogue includes centre pins, clevis pins, pivot pins and spring pins. These pin assortments are ideal for toggle switches, locking devices, power equipment and automotive & fastening applications. Raptor Supplies offers a wide range of these pin assortments from brands like Allpax, ITW Bee Leitzke and Grainger.

Features

  • Pin assortments have centre pins, clevis pins, pivot pins, spring pins and other miscellaneous assortments including power punch pins, grooved pins, stacking pins with a spring lock, taper pins and pivot posts.
  • Most of the assortments come in a plastic container (box / case) for organised storage and transport.
  • These pins feature carbon steel / low carbon steel / spring wire / 18-8 stainless steel construction with zinc / plain finish to offer resistance against wear and corrosion.
  • Centre pins are designed for aligning holes and centring fixtures on pallets.
  • Clevis pins have a configured hole for easy fastening when used with a clevis fastener.
  • The offered pivot pins are found on the ends of cylinder rods and between moving mechanical elements. They are flexible enough to operate effectively.
  • The spring pins are hollow, cylindrical, tube-style press-fit fasteners having chamfered ends. They can be doubled up to ensure additional shear strength.
  • These pin assortments have lengths ranging from 0.8 to 6.4 inches and are available in packs containing up to 1200 pieces.

Frequently Asked Questions

What tool should I use to insert a metal dowel pin?

Press fit dowel pins should be installed using an arbour press. Never use a hammer that may risk damaging the pin and causing it to fail. Slip fit dowel pins are simple & flexible to install by hand.

Are clevis pins hardened?

The Rockwell scale, which is based on the material's indentation hardness, is used to gauge the hardness of clevis pins. The most typical materials used to make clevis pins are carbon steel, stainless steel and brass, each of which has a different Rockwell hardness. Clevis pins can be case hardened, making the pin's exterior hard.

How to install hairpin cotter pins?

  • Hairpin cotter pins are straightforward fasteners used to hold applications with grooved pins in place.
  • Take hold of the looped end of the hairpin and place the split end in the groove of the shaft, spindle or pin that has to be fastened.
  • Advance the hairpin till the initial indentations lay on top and below the fastened portion.
  • For removal, grab the hairpin's looped end and pull back until the pin separates from the mating component.

How to install and remove a spring, coiled or slotted pin?

  • For installation, the simplest method is to use a hammer. For this, line up the pin to the hole by hand and tap the end of the pin with a hammer driving it into the hole.
  • Another method is using a pin-driving chuck with a press or air hammer for good control, alignment and quick cycle times. For this, insert the pin into the open end of the driver, leaving an exposed end of the pin and then firmly fasten the chuck to the air hammer or press. After that, place the exposed end of the pin into the hole of the matching component and push or air hammer it until the pin fits accordingly.
  • For removal from through the hole, use a roll pin punch to prevent damage to the mating part or the pin. Align the punch to the pin and drive the pin out the other end by hammering the punch's top with a hammer. Repeat this procedure until the pin has fully exited the hole.
  • A portion of the pin is exposed (in some cases) while removing a spring pin from a blind hole, permitting it to be gripped by pliers for effortless removal.
  • Use a self-tapping screw if the pin is flush with its mating surface.
