About Elmo Rietschle

The company's catalogue includes claw, liquid ring, radial, rotary lobe, rotary vane & screw vacuum pumps; side-channel blowers & compressors; and air supply cabinets. Elmo Rietschle vacuum pumps are designed to completely remove moisture or gas molecules from a sealed unit. They are capable of withstanding heavy-duty cycles in wet and humid environments. These oil-lubricated rotary vane pumps have bearings on both sides of the rotor to uniformly distribute load on each component and an oil / air heat exchanger for removing the heat generated due to compression, friction & condensation. Selected models come equipped with a vacuum non-return valve to prevent back-siphonage of oil molecules into the vacuum system and a gas ballast valve for trapping hazardous exhaust contaminants. They are offered in 12.8, 96 and 128 oz oil capacities, with a maximum displacement of 71 cfm.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between an air pump and an air compressor?

Although both air pumps and air compressors have the same function, their operational process is different. Air pumps are designed to move liquids & gases through a system but air compressors only move gases.

How do screw vacuum pumps work?

  • As the fluid enters rotary screw vacuum pumps, it becomes trapped in the cavities between the housing and threads of the screw.
  • Pressure is generated by the rotation of the screw, emitting the fluid on the other side.
  • They are ideal for handling single & multi-phase fluids or fluids with abrasive contaminants.

What types of compressors does Rietschle Thomas manufacture?

  • WOB-L piston compressors: These lubricated, reciprocating piston compressors are used in the medical, automotive and beverage industries. They provide greater flows at any given pressure or vacuum and offer a balanced design for low-vibration operation.
  • Articulated piston compressors: These units are commonly used in gas compression and air compression for pneumatic systems. They feature a compact design, allowing reduced vibration & noise levels. They also reduce friction & wear on the piston to provide smooth back & forth movement to compress the fluid.
  • Liquid ring Compressors: These units are used in the plastics and medical industries. They use a rotating impeller within a ring of liquid (water) to compress and pump fluid (gas / vapour). They provide oil-free compression as the liquid ring helps to lubricate the moving parts and prevent contamination.

How do I maintain and repair my Rietschle Thomas compressor?

  • Regular maintenance is required to keep the compressor running smoothly. Users must check and replace filters, lubricate moving parts, check belts and the bearing for any signs of wear or damage.
  • Ensure that the moving components are thoroughly lubricated to reduce friction and wear. It is also important to use the right lubricant as specified in the instructions, as the wrong one might reduce the efficiency of the compressor.
  • Regular cleaning of the compressor is critical from time-to-time, including the air intake, to prevent clogging.
  • Regular monitoring of the compressor for any signs of unusual noises and vibrations is needed to reduce the risk of damage.

Can Rietschle Thomas compressors be used in hazardous environments?

Rietschle Thomas offers several ATEX-certified compressors, such as side channel and dry-running claw compressors, for use in hazardous environments.
