Made from high-speed tool steel or carbon steel, the spiral and straight flute extractors are designed to ensure firm gripping and ease extraction by not binding or chewing the material as it is removed. These screw extractors are available in sets containing up to 48 pieces, each having different drill and drive size.

Working Mechanism

  • The screw extractor design uses a tapered drill bit with reverse threading to back the screw out normally.
  • While backing out, it bites down into the head of the stripped fastener, owing to the reverse threading.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you use Irwin straight screw extractor?

  • Drill a hole in the fastener or threaded part that is to be removed.
  • Drill deep enough to gain grip by the extractor without bottoming out.
  • Use a left-handed drill bit for best results.
  • Insert the extractor and turn it with a drive tool or wrench.

How to prevent thread stripping?

  • Use a bit of the correct size.
  • Keep the driver perpendicular to the screw head.
  • Make sure that the tip is fully seated into the screw head recess before starting the turning process.
